We are going from Fall to FaLaLa with participation in a wonderful cause!
This new PCAFA project promotes the work of our members, creates community and social media “buzz” and supports mental health.
The gorgeous seven-foot tree will be called “OCEANS OF ARTISTS” and will showcase small art.*
We want the viewers and the ultimate high bidder to see the talent within our society. The Oceans of Artists Tree will be on display in the community in November for a few days before traveling to the week-long Festival of Trees exhibit – a live, in-person event November 20 – 27 in downtown Halifax at The Doyle before being auctioned off to the highest bidder. Artist member Paula Fredericks, a long-time Festival of Trees designer, will lead the project.
Instructions for Artists
First, please REGISTER by emailing Paula at [email protected]
October 19th to October 22th – For painters, fully prepped 4″ x 4″ wood tiles will be ready for pickup. One per person for now. Pick up your tile and instructions on the front porch at the Community Enterprise Centre anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday, October 19th to Friday, October 22. There will be a box, a pen and clipboard there. Please sign the sheet in the box.
Then paint right on the tile! If you work in water colour, you can mount a small water colour piece on the wood tile. Artisans who work in other media, please create a small art piece no greater than 4″ x 4″ in width (doesn’t have to be square) and as thin as possible, as we can’t add a lot of weight. It has to be ‘wireable’ to attach to our tree. So a small ceramic tile, a fibre art piece, glass piece, metal work item, woodwork piece, or jewellery item secured to a 4″ x 4″ surface could be submitted. FRAGILITY is an issue, so the less fragile, the better!
October 26th is our Members Mingle (a.k.a. Annual General Meeting) at Shining Waters. This will be the last opportunity to pick up tiles. If you have your art ready, please bring it that night so we can showcase the work. We will also be creating some special ball ornaments that night. Come be a part of the fun!
November 4th is the final date for drop off of finished art pieces. We will let you know where to drop your finished work.
PHOTOGRAPHERS! We have not forgotten you! 4″ x 4″ is very constraining for a photo. You are welcome to submit a matted photo up to 8″ x 10″ and we will display these on wrapped boxes under the tree. Please be sure to put some sort of clear sleeve over your art to prevent scratches.
THANK YOU to our community supporters: the St Margaret’s Bay Gardening Club, the Community Enterprise Centre.
